The LGBT Bar Association of Los Angeles Annual Gala is the largest event the Association holds each year. The event honors individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to education, human rights, and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. For more than ten years, the Gala has been themed to spotlight important issues to the LGBTQ+ community including marriage equality, military service, adoption, employment, and unity.

This year's theme is "Pride Without Borders." LGBTQ+ people continue to be persecuted globally. This year’s Gala honors the hard work of advocates to protect LGBTQ+ refugees.

Immigration Equality is this year’s recipient of our Community Service award. Immigration Equality is the leading LGBTQ immigrant rights organization in the country. Each year, it provides advice and legal services to thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-positive immigrants seeking refuge fair treatment, and freedom in the United States.

The range of honorees at the event celebrates the diversity of LGBTQ+ advocates. Our Community Partner of the Year Award will be given to ShepardMullin, in recognition of the firm’s long history of promoting LGBTQ+ equality within the organization, and in its pro bono work. And we will recognize Isa Noyola with our Co-Presidents Award for her outstanding and innovative advocacy on self determination for all people and empowering translatinas to feel protected, loved, is order to develop themselves.

Over the last decade, Isa Noyola has been a prominent translatina activist working on the frontlines of LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights movements. Noyola founded and worked as a national advocate for El/La Para Translatinas, an organization that works to build a world where translatinas feel they deserve to protect, love, and develop themselves. She is also the former Deputy Director of Transgender Law Center, the largest, national trans-led organization advocating self-determination for all people. Noyola is currently Deputy Director at Mijente, a political, digital, and grassroots hub for Latinx and Chicanx organizing and movement building.

Immigration Equality is the nation’s leading LGBTQ+ immigrant rights organization. They represent and advocate for people from around the world fleeing violence, abuse, and persecution because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. In more than 80 countries, it is a crime or fundamentally unsafe to be LGBTQ+. Since 1994, Immigration Equality has focused on providing free, direct legal services to LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive immigrants, including asylum seekers, binational couples and families, detained people, and undocumented persons.

Sheppard Mullin, and its LGBTQ+ affinity group “Out at Sheppard” have a longstanding commitment to increasing visibility of and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer attorneys and other professionals. The firm also has a strong tradition of supporting the LGBTQ+ community through its extensive pro bono work and charitable giving. Consistent with this year’s Gala theme, Sheppard Mullin attorneys frequently represent LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive clients from around the world who were forced to flee their homelands because of severe discrimination and persecution, and are seeking refuge, freedom, and asylum in the United States.
